TorProject.org - Protecting Your Online Privacy

Don’t you find it amazing how much marketers know about you, your interest, and location. Well TorProject.

org provides software that allows you to do your online business and protect your privacy. At first Tor was developed to protect government communications of the Navy but now anyone can use Tor. Many groups of people use Tor, from your average Joe doing online shopping to the Human Rights Journalist writing articles on censorship. Many organizations such as Amnesty International use Tor so that members can express themselves without fearing that someone who doesn’t agree with them can find them. If you have a high profile and want to be left alone or if you want to express yourself anonymously, Tor can be very helpful. Tor protects users from being tracked by setting up a path which can’t be traced. The software creates a circuit of encrypted connections through relays on the network. The circuit extends one hop at a time and each relay only knows the relay that gave it data and the relay which it will pass the data to. No single relay knows the whole path of the data. Tor relies on donations and volunteers to run the relays. You can support Tor by donating, running relays, and spreading the word. TorProject.org provides useful software which helps people safely express themselves.

    Torproject.org/ In their own words

"Tor is a software project that helps you defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security. Tor protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location. Tor works with many of your existing applications, including web browsers, instant messaging clients, remote login, and other applications based on the TCP protocol.
Hundreds of thousands of people around the world use Tor for a wide variety of reasons: journalists and bloggers, human rights workers, law enforcement officers, soldiers, corporations, citizens of repressive regimes, and just ordinary citizens."

Why Torproject.org/ might be a killer

TorProject.org has a pleasant interface and a well designed logo. There is a great deal of information on the site that explains how Tor works and why you would need it. When I first thought of the concept, I immediately thought of the common individual’s benefits of protecting online privacy. When I continued to read about the other individuals that use Tor I realized how much need there was for protecting your privacy. Human Rights activists and journalists are in great need of protecting their privacy. TorProject.org is available in many languages which is useful because there is a large population of people which need to use the software. TorProject.org is useful for a large array of people.
