This platform is actually open source, and the preview release that can be procured by clicking on the link that is displayed at the bottom of this page already has a rich set of features in place.





For example, application scripts written both in Ruby and in Python are accounted for, and there is also built-in database support and desktop notifications that can be counted upon.

But the most remarkable feature is that apps can be created using both the provided Appcelerator SDK platform (the one presented by the company), or any other third-party Ajax library of framework.

Of course, whether or not such a platform will eventually be able to rival Adobe AIR remains moot. If you want to give it a try you can do it for free, and draw your very own conclusions. At any rate, it is worth a look if you are a seasoned developer or someone who has a basic knowledge and wants to expand and capitalize on it.
