Slooh.com - Live Online Space Observatory

    slooh

Slooh is an online observatory that expert astronomers and beginners alike can use to explore space in real-time. Slooh currently has two observatory domes located in the Canary Islands and will be unveiling two more in Chile and Australia in the coming months. Each of these observatories contain two high-powered telescopes, one wide field and the other high magnification, giving you more options as you explore the sky. Slooh also includes a space camera which allows you to take photos of the images you are viewing and share them. Considering the level of technology provided, Slooh is a real bargain and an unlimited viewing pack will run you about $100 per year. A beginner pack which gives you a limited number telescope will run you about $20

    In their own words

“One thing SLOOH has going for it, observers say, is the fact that people can see things in real time, watching as the telescope accumulates photons and builds an image over the course of five minutes or so. That's a pretty powerful telescope on a pretty good site. The images are top notch.”

Why it might be a killer

Slooh gives anybody access to technology previously reserved for NASA scientists and other prominent astronomers. For democratizing space, Slooh deserves a big pat on the back and the very reasonable pricing will almost certainly make this a Killer site for some time to come.

    Some questions

Perhaps they should consider offering free trial periods so that people can see what they are getting before purchasing. Even a five-minute trial would allow people to see that the membership cost is a bargain.
