ScrubIt.com - Squeaky Clean Web Surfing

To keep the malicious things out, there’s ScrubIt a recursive DNS server. It acts as a sort of screen door, blocking out porn, spam, phishing and the like. It promises to scrub the internet squeaky clean, so that children aren’t exposed to pornography and workers get back to work. This free service is targeted at both families and businesses. By signing up for the beta service, you can specify which sites to block. After the beta period, pricing will be tiered, although the basic service will remain free. Currently, it only works with Windows. To use it you can manually configure your router use ScrubIt’s DNS servers or you can download the ScrubIt utility (for XP and 2000 only). Once done malicious sites will be blocked. Over 3 million sites have been scrubbed so far.

  In their own words

“ScrubIT is a FREE recursive DNS server that regulates what comes into your home or business. ScrubIT “scrubs” the internet so you don’t have to be concerned about what your family members or employees will be confronted with.

We currently profile several million websites and by default block out any pornographic, phishing, and many other potentially harmful sites. Users who wish to customize which sites are blocked and allowed may sign up for our BETA and customize their ScrubIT experience.”

Why it might be a killer

This is good for concerned parents who don’t want to play Big Brother all the time, and are looking for some sort of reliable anti-porn filter that does the same job as real time monitoring. It’s simple to implement, and within a few clicks, your household will remain the pristine haven it should be.

  Some questions

How easy is it to remove this? What sorts of malicious sites are blocked—what standard do they use? How effective is it? Is censorship the way to go?
