Planiglobe.com - Create Your Own Maps

    planiglobe

Make maps with Planiglobe. Choose a country to map, add places, layers and symbols. You can create maps using a PostScript format, which by storing graphic info as vectors and graphic attributes, rather than columns of pixels (e.g. JPEG, GIF, PNG), creates a far better quality picture at any size. PostScript maps can be imported into text documents, and publishing tools; colors, labels, and fonts can be changed and enhanced as well. For those interested in the graphics to a greater degree, there´s the Adobe Ilustrator compatible map format which allows for more customization. Map componentsâ€"countries, bodies of water, cities, etc,-- are stored as layers which make for easier manipulation and editing. To create your own map, you´ve got to register; all map data were collected from public domain sources.

    In their own words

“You may generate maps interactively at planiglobe. Zoom in and out, search for places and add your own locations to a map.

Why it might be a killer

Planiglobe lets you create high quality maps; this is especially useful for students, or designers who want to expand a presentation with cool cartography.

    Some questions

Maps, though a useful tool, don´t inspire much fun. Will people want to create their own maps?
