PickOfTheTwitter.com - A Random Selection of BestTweets

Some tweets are better than others. There are some that are utterly inane and run of the mill and there are others that are short, pithy haikus carrying jewels of information. As not all tweets are created equal, PickoftheTwitter, a brand new Twitter based app, aims to find the best ones and give them the star treatment. Pick pulls in what it deems as the cream of the tweet crop, each hour of the day. All tweets are selected from the public timeline. Don’t ask how they pick the best tweets; they just do. Also, many of the Tweets they’ve selected aren’t in English—Japanese selections seem to be a recurring favorite. You can go through the archives to see previously chosen tweets. They all seem rather random, but interesting nonetheless.

Although this may simply be someone’s pet project and it may only display a few select tweets from select people, it is an interesting project. It gives you a random sampling of messages from around the world. It’s a veritable slice of global life.

Really, how are the best tweets selected? What’s the point of this site? There doesn’t seem to be anything behind it, no real plan and it seems random at best. You could easily get the same results from the public timeline.
