Panoramio.com - Geography and Your Photos

    panoramio

Panoramio is a geographical photo collab site that uses Google Earth to link photos to the exact location from which they were taken. Zoom in on Paris and take a gander at the Tour Eiffel from a host of perspectives with photos taken by different people. Or, check out trails and pinpoint exact scenic locations. Panoramio pages load a Google map on one side while photos are displayed directly opposite allowing viewers to see exact locations and the corresponding photos at the same time. Photos are sorted by tags and users can search the Panoramio search engine to locate pictures and places. The site also offers free photo storage; you´ll get 2GB or approximately 2000 photos worth of personal space; or you can store your photos at the location where they were taken so that anyone can see them. Panoramio is a great learning tool, and it´s a perfect venue to showcase your travel photos so that you´ll always remember your trip.

    In their own words

“Panoramio allows you to locate photos exactly over the place they were taken.

Why it might be a killer

The geographic web works well for educational purposes; it allows viewers to see what places look like without actually being there. It´s also a great way to organize vacation photos so that you´ll always know where you went.

    Some questions

Google maps are rather slow to load, will this deter users? Does this only have a limited appeal?
