OpenStreetMap.org – Wiki Your Neighborhood

Can you imagine having the ability to edit something that’s wrong on Google Maps? If you could do that, it would look an awful lot like Openstreetmap.org.

With this great site, you’ll be able to see a user-generated map of almost every city in the world. Users are encouraged to add information to the map, to make it more accurate and complete. After you sign up, you’ll be able to start adding information to the map. Like with any wiki project, accuracy is encouraged. Many users keep diaries on the site. These deal with the travels they’re taking which allow them to complete these maps. It’s very interesting to see to what lengths some people go to provide this site with accurate data. From what I can see, the information on the map is very accurate. There are some sections of the world missing, but that’s due to the fact that the site hasn’t grown to its full potential yet.
