Newsified is on online service that provides an overview of the most popular social news sites along with YouTube. The main selling point of this aggregator is the way news are presented – instead of the top-down blog style that it is the norm, the programmer (Mr. Luke Stevens) went for a news format that I find much easier on the eye. Likewise, one of his main concerns was that only a fraction of news content was actually presented using other means. According to his estimation, about 90 % of news content goes unnoticed on any given day, and that was something he wanted to address. Thus, Newsified was born.

As it is mentioned on the site, too, Newsfified aims to respect the flavor of each individual site on an individual page. Instead of coming up with a mashup of links, Mr. Stevens opted to give each site its own page, and these can be accessed from the opening screen.

This new initiative has just launched, and feedback is greatly appreciated. Make a point of contacting Mr. Stevens and letting him know what are your thoughts on Newsified and where you think is room for improvement.

“I noticed that most social news sites are essentially using a glorified blog format. This is fine for keeping on top of the newest 15-25 links, but that might represent ~10% of interesting new content on a given day. What about the other 90%? Newsified aims to complement these sites by giving a birds-eye-view of what’s happening on the rest of the site. I’m using a few different formats and will keep an eye on how each style performs, with the Digg page being the most ‘news-ish’ in terms of layout.”

It provides a concise way of reading the latest news in the same spot.
