    MyOwnDB.com - A Free, Web-based Database

    myowndb

MyOwnDB is a data base management application which uses the open source framework Ruby on Rails. This web-based app allows you to easily create any sort of data base, whether it be for your CDs or for a client list. MyOwnDB eliminates the need to do your own hosting; your account comes with its own interface to enter and modify data once you´ve defined its structure. Not only is this portable app free, it´s also multilingual, or rather, more precisely, bilingual; for the moment it is available in French and English. The interface is clean and the configuration is quite easy. Administrators are able to change/define the data structure itself, while users can modify, edit and manipulate data with a couple clicks. The administrator may also assign tasks to multiple users via email. Newly added, is the ability to upload files, which allows you to further enhance and define previously existing databases.

    In their own words

“MyOwnDB.com is a web application using the latest development techniques to provide a dynamic interface. MyOwnDB web-based; this means that your data is accessible from anywhere: your work, your home, your hotel. Further development of the application will also let you share your data easily. It is easy to configure: All you need is a browser to take advantage of the application as a user (manipulating the data) or as an administrator (defining the structure of the data). And it´s easy to use: the application has been developed to make entering, searching and organising data easy. Getting to the functionality you need shouldn"t take more than 2 clicks!”

Why it might be a killer

MyOwnDB is a simple yet powerful application. Anyone can use itâ€"it´s not just for businesses. MyOwnDB eliminates the need to learn complicated database software, and it´s free.

    Some questions

Will users prefer the rather scaled-down and sparse MyOwnDB to established database apps like Access? How will this be monetized? Will there be enough support for an increase in users?
