In their own words
“The founders of lala, John, Billy, Anselm and I are devout music fans and created the service for the benefit of artists and fellow music fans.
Why it might be a killer
For people who want to remain on the legal side of music owning, this is a great source. This is far cheaper than the alternative of buying new CDs or songs new from other sources, plus people always have CDs they´ve grown tired of and are ready to exchange for something new. It´s like netflix for music. The site is also very easy to use and there is a huge selection to choose from. They also make a profit through the different contests and promotions they have, such as being entered to win an iPod Nano when you sign up for free.
Some questions
Do enough people still use actual physical CDs any more? Will people go through the trouble of trading their CDs online when they could easily just exchange with their friends? Do enough people still pay to listen to music? Will high demand for specific CDs that is not met with the amount available cause people to become frustrated and turn to other sources for their music?
