HaikuLS.com - Putting Classrooms on the Web

    haikuls

HaikuLS is a learning management system (aka classroom website creator) which aims to make education easier. Their focus is, of course, on usability, they want teachers to be able to use Haiku without effort. Among its features are discussion boards with three main groupings: group discussion, class discussion, and one on one discussion. Another important feature is the dropbox. This is where students can turn in their homework electronically; students can also view comments and responses from the teacher here. Haiku also has a calendaring app which syncs with the assignments listing which notifies students of due dates and daily activities. Teachers can easily create websites, pulling in content from outside sites without having a profound wealth of technical aptitude. It's all drag and drop for simple management. Haiku is affordable, starting out at a mere $4.95 a month for up to three active classes. There's also a free version available. Special pricing is available for districts and schools.

    In their own words

"At HAIKU Learning Systems, our staff speaks only in 5-7-5 haikus.
    Seriously, we
love to make stuff for teachers.
    That's what makes us smile.
Our primary focus is to provide the fastest, easiest and most cost-effective web learning management software on the market. We have a blast creating this stuff for teachers."

Why it might be a killer

Haiku claims that teachers need to spend only about 20 minutes a week maintaining their learning schedule using the system. The interface is very user-friendly, with its simple to use CMS. It's also cost effective.

    Some questions

How are they going to get the word out and market this product to schools and teachers? Will they add messaging? What about audio/video?
