Glubble.com - Making The Web Safe for Kids

The internet is as perilous as it is uplifting and time wasting; it’s filled with hazards for children especially which is why Firefox tool Glubble is a parent’s best friend. Glubble provides a kid friendly environment for your little ones to safely surf the web. The service has whitelisted 350 sites which are approved for young eyes. Parents can update and edit the list and combine them with lists of other parents. Each family member gets his/her login info; parents get the normal Firefox fixings while kids get a pristine and colorful environment which is carefully screened. Thumbnail previews for sites are available for the non-readers. A child who ventures into forbidden territory is asked to consult a parent. Parents have complete control without having to keep constant vigil.

  In their own words

“Glubble puts the web in the hands of families. • Glubble Trusted Surfing for children under 12 years of age enables families to be sure they only see the best of the web they choose to allow. • Glubble Altered Search makes Google and Yahoo show results from childrens trusted Glubbleworld instead of the world wide web. • Child friendly look and feel with interfaces for pre-reading and reading age young children.”

Why it might be a killer

Glubble is perfect for parents who can’t watch their children all the time; plus it’s flexible, lists can be altered whenever the need occurs. Children can surf the web while avoiding its dangers; keeps parents minds sound. Children will enjoy the interface and its cute characters.

  Some questions

Does it really work as effectively as it says? Will kids figure out how to uninstall the plug-ins? What about the sites that have already been preapproved, are they actually sites you’d want your kids to go to?

Glubble has been launched in a new version which is a huge improvement from the Beta version. The focus is more on collaborations and giving kids the experience on the web they deserve while being safe. I tried the new version and was very, very impressed. I hope they will launch on IE as well, because this will be a killerapp
