GetLibra.com - Catalog Your Movies, Music, Books, Games

    getlibra

If your personal media collection often serves as a lending library for friends, or if the numbers in your collection are simply becoming overwhelming, then Libra could become your favorite new tool. A free Windows software, Libra helps you digitally organize your books, movies, music, and games. You can create attractive visual catalogs of your media, to be viewed on your computer, printed, or published to the web for sharing with others. Libra will help you keep track of what you own, where it’s kept, or who’s borrowed what. There are various means of creating your library. If you already have some sort of catalog, you can import data from programs like Excel, Delicious Library, LibraryThing, or a text file. You can also use your webcam to scan barcodes, and Libra will retrieve the product information for you and add its info and picture to your library. A third option is using Amazon.com to search for and indicate which items you own. Finally, you could enter items manually, which is obviously more time-consuming, but a great option if you’d like to add rarities not listed on Amazon, home videos, or bootlegs. You can also add your own notes or comments to any item in your collection.

    In their own words

“Libra is a library software to organize your stuff: Books, Audio CDs, Movies, & Games (for a start). And it does so beautifully, and at an amazing price ($0 for non-commercial use).”

Why it might be a killer

The catalogs you create are visually very attractive, especially if you’re running Windows Vista. It’s easy to imagine movie, music, book, or videogame buffs wanting to show off their personal collection on a blog, social networking site, or anywhere else on the web. This could be really helpful to anyone who has an extensive media collection, especially someone who often lends his or her items out.

    Some questions

Will we see a Libra Facebook app developed so you can easily show off and/or share your collection with friends on that network? Any hope of a Mac version being released?
