FreeYourId.com - Managing Your Online Identity

    freeyourid

In an effort to give your more control over your online identity FreeYourID has developed an ID management service using OpenId. This means you'll get one personalized address which you can use for all your social networks, communities, shopping, etc. Additionally, both your personal domain name and email address are yours for life—you own them; they're also the basis of you OpenId, so you don't have to memorize anything more than your name. With FreeyourID, you control who gets what information and how you can be reached. There's a free 90 trial version which includes a personal Pageflakes site aggregator, domain name, email address and OpenID service. After those 90 days, you'll need to pay $10.95 a year to continue.

    In their own words

"Welcome to the service that is likely to do as much for your identity online as your birth certificate has done "offline".
We personalize your presence online and help you manage your identity on the Internet - who gets what information, what is it used for, and how you can be reached. We make it easier for the "good guys" to find you, and harder for the "bad guys" to get, use or abuse your information."

Why it might be a killer

FreeYourId's online identity management platform does seem to make controlling your personal info much simpler. With one centralized and name based ID, you manage who gets your info, and for what purposes. It's also a lot simpler having a .name address and domain—your friends, your family, and you yourself will find it easy to remember.

    Some questions

Will users feel the need to pay for the service? Is it really worth it?
