    FMAtlas.com - Create Interactive Maps

    fmatlas

With FMAltas.com, people are able to create an interactive map fairly easily. All that needs to be done is to first find the map that to be used and then you can add balloons to different parts of your map that can be zoomed in on to access different information. The FMAtlas service is free, and with the service you can embed a map of any size on your website and allow readers to plot comments and photos on the maps. There is even a blog that accomodates the site to help you use all of the features of the site and also gives examples of what others have done with the service.

    In their own words

Atlas allows publishers – national chains, hyperlocal news sites and bloggers – to add interactive maps to their stories in seconds.

Right now Atlas is in alpha – that means you're using a very early version of the product. We're still doing lots of testing and iterating, and we'd love any feedback you want to give us.

Atlas was created by Faneuil Media, a team of web developers and journalists that helps news organizations take advantage of web services and web-based data.

In addition to building tools like Atlas, Faneuil Media provides custom web development to news organizations.

Why it might be a killer

This is a great tool for those who have websites that needs to cover something regional add would like to have reader interaction and participation on the website, this is the most intensive website of its kind right now and it is free to use.

    Some questions

Since there is no advertising on the site and the service is free, how will the site make money?
