In their own words
“This site uses a huge database of file extension information, mainly (but not exclusive to) the Microsoft Windows (Including Windows Vista!), Apple Macintosh and Linux operating systems. We try to provide as much information as possible for each entry, and we encourage all visitors to contact us if they have any additional information, or have a new file extension that they would like added to the database. Alternatively, each entry can be edited and visitors have the option of adding a comment, question or tip!”
Why it might be a killer
Without a doubt, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of the thousands of different file extensions, what they do, and how to use them. Dotwhat should become an increasingly useful site as more and more extensions are added. Also the ability for users to make comments should allow the site’s accuracy and utility to increase over time.
Some questions
This is undoubtedly a very valuable resource. Have they considered adding the ability to be able to search for extensions depending on operating system or by program that will run them?
