Bumptop.com - The Desktop that Looks Like Home

    bumptop

If you’re not impressed by the sterile rigidity of your computer desktop, then BumpTop may be your solution. This app actually lets you mimic the laissez faire mess of you real world desk. You can push and pile your icons, making the perfect workspace arrangement that suits your habits. BumpTop uses a 3D interface and animation to make your desktop experience more engaging and versatile. What you’ll see is a virtual desktop covered with animated icons that can be pushed around, tidied, stacked, and scattered. It"s currently not available, but check out the video on YouTube.

    In their own words

“BumpTop is a fresh and engaging new way to interact with your computer desktop. You can pile and toss documents like on a real desk. Break free from the rigid and mechanical style of standard point-and-click desktops. Interact by pushing, pulling and piling documents with elegant, self revealing gestures. BumpTop’s stunning interface makes clever use of 3D presentation and smooth physics-based animations for an engaging, vivid user experience.”

Why it might be a killer

BumpTop, you’ve got to admit, has the visual pizzazz to elicit ooh’s and aah’s from just about everyone. It’s cool to look at and play around with; and it certainly makes your desktop less boring. The icons behave like real sheets of paper, they move around and can be piled and tossed like a deck of cards; it’s super cool.

    Some questions

Yes fun, indeed BumpTop is, but it’s not practical. None of the files have names. There’s no way to file things and opening apps seems to take some work. Some might say that they don’t want their computer desktop to be anything like their real desktop; just too messy perhaps. Defeats the point of the super organized aura of the computer.
