Alefo.com - A New StartPage Aims to Out Do iGoogle

    alefo

Israeli based Alefo is a news/personal aggregator that is taking on iGoogle and Netvibes. The site allows users to compile their favorite RSS feeds, Widgets and what they dub ‘site shots’ which basically consist of parts of other websites, to paste onto a personal homepage. You can add Site shots, by taking a screenshot of any webpage and selecting the parts you want to see; they open up as moveable small windows on your homepage. The top tool bar features a recycle bin along with tabs. Widgets can be manually added, or you can select from a few they have on offer, such as YouTube’s most popular daily videos. The service will eventually be available for mobile use as well.

    In their own words

    "Taking it easy"

Why it might be a killer

Alefo does have an interesting product in its hands. The site shots are a unique way to add pages that you check daily, without having to actually visit the page. Adding new items is simple. Overall Alefo looks like an easy and efficient homepage.

    Some questions

Alefo does have its fair share of bugs. For one, your mouse tends to get stuck on one window. The siteshot tool could be improved and more widgets should be readily available. What’s more there’s no about page and your selection is as great as with iGoogle et al.
