    Twyric.com - Poetry In Motion

    twyric

I was quite excited when I learned about this site. You see, basically it is a mashup that blends Twitter and Flickr together and offers what the programmer himself names as “The poetic side of Twitter”. In theory, that sounds quite exciting.

The site takes a random tweet and couples it with a Flickr image that has some sort of relation to it. These images and tweets are displayed at a rate that you set yourself by adjusting a provided slider. Other than that, you have no control over the whole process – it is all automatic.

Now, the actual results are either very accurate or they fall way, way off the mark. To be fair, this has nothing to do with the programmer himself – not every tweet is necessarily meant to stand as a poetic evocation, so that it is no surprising that suitable pictures are hard to be found sometimes, and that the ones that do crop up have nothing to do with the tweet to begin with.

It is a nice try, but it does not really deliver the goods. Let’s hope this programmer or someone else can take the idea and better-realize it in the future. A richer algorithm might do the trick, and letting users have more control over the process wouldn’t hurt either.

    In their own words

    “The poetic side of Twitter.”

Why it might be a killer

It provides some interesting pictures to look at, but the basic premise is not necessarily carried across.

    Some questions

How are the pictures and the tweets matched from a technical viewpoint?
