SoundTransit.nl - A World of Sounds

Did you know that the sounds you make while performing any regular chore, like cooking breakfast can be considered under certain lights as precious as a symphony? It seems the world is full of beautiful sounds, with domestic andantes and urban sonatas, and so the people at SoundTransit are up and about collecting them, and allowing you to transit this maze of user-created sounds. Since the idea of the whole project is that users travel the world in search and discovery of sounds and music, there is an airline-thing to SoundTransit.

nl as when you enter the site you are requested to ‘book a flight’, and your playlists are dubbed ‘itineraries’, and you can download them to your computer in mp3 format. Using this site is extremely easy and fun: first you need to decide on your trip (geographical origin and destination, and number of stops in the way –you don’t get to choose where to stop), and then the site will present several combinations of sounds; for instance, if you choose to go from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Helsinki in Finland with three stops, you might end up listening to schoolgirls talking, a recording of a former military area for telecommunications in Leipzig, followed by roadworks in Marseille, from where you’ll go on to Antwerp and the sound of buzzing factories, un-definable sounds and crickets, and finally arrive to your destination, to be greeted by the sounds from a ferry entering Helsinki harbor. Quite trippy indeed, eh?
