RadioIndie.com - Get The Low Down on New Indie Music

    RadioIndie

There are indie bands which have catapulted their way from pint-sized bars and odd climes, such as Arcade Fire who were PitchForked into the limelight, and there are bands that have barely made a rustle in their own neighborhood. RadioIndie seeks to unearth the lesser knowns and give them exposure. Bands or fans may submit music to be played on the streaming radio player. Depending on user comments and ratings, the song may make it to the top 100; even if your song hasn´t quite got the panache that voters are looking for, it remains onsite available for download and commentary. Anyone can submit music without registering; you´ll just have to provide a brief description of the song/band and upload the track, making it available for download. The rotation will be changed weekly and a compilation cd will soon be available. So far the site boasts a fair number of songs, but it will need an upsurge in traffic to keep the music flowing.

    In their own words

“We"re an independent, streaming radio station dedicated to your indie music and indie your fans. We want to give unsigned bands more choices to get their music heard and of course give music fans more variety and exposure to new music. The concept is simple, we listen to the music submitted and take comments from users to determine if the song makes it to the radio player top 100. Depending on how many submissions we get, the rotation will be updated every week or so. The songs that don"t make it will still remain on the site so that others can listen, download and comment on them. We will be adding user voting functionality soon. We will also be holding contests and releasing a compilation CD of the winners. All we need from you are the songs. We"ll listen to them, and the best will be put in rotation.

Why it might be a killer

Artists are always looking for an outlet to get their music heard; the music industry is a tough crowd to please sometimes, but RadioIndie makes music a little more democratic. Fans get their own say; they determine who gets played and who doesn´t.

    Some questions

The site will only prosper with a steady flow of submissions; so far, the music offerings are meager to say the least. How will it monetize itself, let alone attract an audience? Will they add more features, enabling users to create profiles, providing info on how to buy artists´ cd´s, and making it easier to find out about bands? What about tags and suggestions?
