Pictoma.com - Group Photo Sharing for Events

If you’re hosting a wedding or other large event, the odds are that lots of guests will be snapping photos. Pictoma.com is a site where everyone can upload their photos to one place, to share with other guests and with the host – all you need is the event URL and password to log in. There is a convenient batch upload tool to keep things easy, and as with most other photo-sharing sites, you can create albums and slideshows, order prints, or make photo books, DVD’s, posters, and other gifts. Your guests pay nothing to upload or view the album and can create their own slideshow or gifts. However, the account owner is charged $24 per year, which allows uploading unlimited photos and access for unlimited guests. There is a free 14-day trial option available, to try the site out.

  In their own words

“Unlike other photo sharing sites, Pictoma allows multiple people to upload photos to the same account. At most events, there are lots of people taking great photos. Pictoma allows all of these photos to be uploaded and shared in one place. Now you will get to see all the photos your family and friends took at your wedding, party, or other event. Email or hand out the link to your event, and everyone can upload their photos.”

Why it might be a killer

For a big, special event like a wedding, it might be worth the minimal cost to have a central, professional-looking place for guests to share photos of your event. For events like these, it’s nice that this site is ad-free. The site could also be useful for an event like a Bar Mitzvah, quinceañera, reunion, party, trip, etc.

  Some questions

With all of the free picture-sharing sites out there, does Pictoma offer enough unique features to convince people it’s worth paying $24 per year? The ability to have multiple users upload to the same album is handy, but couldn’t you just provide all of those users with the username and password for a Flickr, Snapfish, Ofoto, Kodak Gallery, etc. album and do basically the same thing for free? Do you have to keep paying $24 anually to keep your event album online, or only if you want to upload new photos?
