NuVu.Tv- Video News from Around the Globe

    nuvu

There are a fair number of video aggregators around, but Nuvu.tv aims to be a little bit different and a little bit more informative than most of the stuff you find on the Tube. First and foremost, Nuvu is a news network; it aggregates video news from around the world. Nuvu has agreements with the likes of such major hitters as Reuters, the Associated Press, and the Canadian Press. It publishes over 50 news clips daily with constant updates. Nuvu also features English subtitles, rather than voice-overs, giving a more integral viewpoint. Stories are categorized by region and there are further filters for most popular, top stories, and featured. The layout is very similar to YouTube. Videos can be searched and you can copy and paste an RSS feed into your reader. Registration is free, but not required to view videos. Registered members may participate in discussions, submit their own content and potentially generate income.

    In their own words

“nuvu.tv is an Online Broadcast News Network that uses its proprietary technology to repackage video news aggregated from global news agencies, broadcasters and users.

Why it might be a killer

This Montreal based news aggregator allows you to see news from around the world without having to rely on a single view point; with Nuvu you can see how the Beeb covered a story and you can compare it with the Turkish press" coverage. It lets you see how different stories are framed and presented throughout the world, rather than feeding you with one perspective. Immigrant populations will be able to see news from their home countries, and students can use the service for research.

    Some questions

The site provides a great service for those interested in world events and the news; but that audience will be limited to a more progressive sector that has broadband internet. I doubt the same people who like to watch dancing cats on YouTube will seek out news footage from Dougan, the Turkish news agency. Mac users have to download a plug-in which might deter some. And the video quality isn´t the best. The site also looks remarkably like YouTube which may attract some people through default, but it´d be better ultimately if the site came up with a distinctive interface.
