NextNYers profiles the best and brightest new internet entrepreneurs in the New York region. Meghan Mitchell, a former model and freelance writer, hosts the weekly video segment.

Relatively new (there have only been seven episodes at the time of this article), she has interviewed a healthy range of business owners, from online widget providers to the CEO of a citizen journalism outlet. The videos, which last between four and six minutes, offer a good background of the company and the specific industry. She also provides a three-point written synopsis under every video, so viewers can easily see and take away the most important conclusions of the interview.

“The hottest up-and-coming technology, new media and Web 2.0 companies are profiled on nextNYers: the new weekly web series that tells you which companies in the New York City area should be on your radar through interviews with their top executives.The profiles offer insight into their vision and industry, their competitive landscape and their unique abilities.”

NextNYers does a good job of introducing industry managers that may not necessarily be well known. The host also allows the interviewees to do the talking, rather than overwhelming them with questions. These factors, combined with ideal segment lengths (neither too short nor too long), ensure that Ms. Mitchell produces a poignant, but not overwhelming weekly show.

Given the irrelevance of geographical boundaries in the internet, I wonder if the “New York” label might actually alienate potential viewers. She also thankfully dropped the cheesy NYC skyline from the video backdrop, but the video design and sound could use a little more tweaking.
