    Musipedia.org - Wikipedia For Music

The title of the review says it all in a certain sense, but there is one major aspect that should be mentioned lest people are confused: this wiki is not about bands and shows, but it is actually devoted to more technical considerations. That becomes evident if we run through the featured categories.

They go by names like “Keyboard Search”, “Draw Notes”, “Contour search” and “Rhythm search”. Besides, a “Name that Tune” functionality will let you identify any song by playing its melody online or whistling it.

I don’t have to tell you that articles can be submitted and edited by everybody. What has to be stressed is that any entry can boast sheet music and MIDI files to enliven things up. Technical data such as snippets of Parsons Code can likewise be included. In case you are unfamiliar with the term (I was), that is something akin to a rough description of the melodic contour of the composition in question.

Resources like this one are known to do well. Well, Wikipedia does and if we take into account the level of attachment that people always have to music it is only fair to say that this one could get somewhere.

    Musipedia.org In their own words

“Welcome to Musipedia! Inspired by, but not affiliated with Wikipedia, we are building a searchable, editable, and expandable collection of tunes, melodies, and musical themes.

Every entry can be edited by anybody. An entry can contain a bit of sheet music, a MIDI file, textual information about the work and the composer, and last but not least the Parsons Code, a rough description of the melodic contour.”

Why Musipedia.org might be a killer

People love music, and they are bound to enjoy a resource where they can share their insight with others and pick up new knowledge.
