MusicLens.de - Get Really Spot On Music Recs
On first glance MusicLens looks drab and boring, and if you didn't stick around to get down into the heart of the site, you might think you had stumbled on some mathematical site having to do with graphing calculators. But that's not the case.
MusicLens is actually a rather cool music rec service. Just adjust the tuning sliders and MusicLens will find a musical match for something as vague as softness or mood, or even color. Alternately, you can focus your search by entering an artist, genre, or song title to get more specific recs; for example 'all slow titles by Madonna from the 90's that also sound sexy' (yes, you can get absurdly specific). Hit the more like this button to find similar songs. You can save your favorite slider settings for later on using the bookmark feature. All in all, this site reminds one of your favorite resident music blogger who comes up with wacky, amusing and lurid descriptions for a single musical phrase. It gets to the gut of song and figures out what you want to hear so you don't have to stress your brains.

Why Musiclens.de might be a killer
I have to say MusicLens is pretty addictive. Unlike those other music rec services like iLike or Last.fm, you don't have to already know the band or singer or song that you like. This is really perfect when you haven't got a clue as to what you want to listen to but you know the characteristics, e.g. moderately loud, lush, sad and from the 80's. It's sort of like getting the perfect shuffle, but you're in control.
Some questions about Musiclens.de
As much fun as it is, MusicLens needs work. The graphics and coloring are flushed out so it's hard to see the controls, and the font size is too small. It also takes some time to figure out how to use it. Are there controls for rewinding or fast forwarding? Is there any way to compile a playlist?
