Jalipo.com - Watch the Beeb and Al Jazeera, For a Fee

    jalipo

The folks over at Jalipo have latched on to the internet TV craze and are hoping that you think there needs to be more web-based TV as much as they do. So what´s different about Jalipo? It uses a flash based player and users are charged for access. The question is, why pay, when there´s a web full of free entertainment? Jalipo believes that paying for your programming ensures you´re getting longer, higher quality content that´s available on demand and via live stream. Content providers include: the classic news channel BBC, Bloomberg Europe, Al Jazeera English, Euronews, Journey Man TV, EmpireSquare, Mezzo, and Paradine Productions. There are also movies as well as sports, and live events. Viewers pay using credits which can be purchased with credit/debit cards. Credits expire 180 days after your last account activity. Videos are priced per minute and content providers choose the going rate; this means that major live events may be billed at a higher fee than a regular news program.

    In their own words

“Jalipo is the first online marketplace for TV and video. It lets content owners use the internet to offer their channels, video-on-demand and live events direct to viewers around the world.

Why it might be a killer

Jalipo has already got a nice line-up of content. The site looks sharp and it´s got a more refined aesthetic. It will probably appeal to those looking into other possibilities of web TV. It"s also an excellent way for content providers to expand their audience, optimising exposure and distribution.

    Some questions

Will viewers decide that paying for something they could watch on real TV is not something they´re interested in? Is Jalipo going to end up as just one of many?
