Haystack.com - Music Powered by People

    haystack

Tired of listening to the same songs, but have no clue where to look for new stuff? Problem solved! Haystack.com is a great place to discover new music and listen for free. Unlike most sites available now, with Haystack, you can add songs to your playlist as you search or discover them and you don´t need to stay on the page to keep the playlist going. As you continue to surf the page, the player stays with you. You also get to listen to all songs all the way through, not just a 30 sec clip. One of the keys to finding the new music you desire is checking out the “tastemakers” and their suggestions. Tastemakers include people in the music business, DJs, or just the people that always seem to be in the know with music. You can check out what they´re listening to, ask them for suggestions, subscribe to their updates, look at their stacks, or make a stack on something they´ve posted. Stacks include anything from songs, videos, pictures, or just general comments on an artist or song. Stacks show which artists and songs are getting the most attention and making the most noise.

    In their own words

“Haystack wants to be an extension to your life as a musician, music seeker or music recommender. We launched into "Public Preview" on 11:54 PM on October 25th and are open for the world to see. Why are we different? Haystack is here to help you collect your life on and off the web and put it in context with artists and music. Music is meant to be shared. We hope that Haystack can someday become the LEGAL and FREE alternative to file sharing.

Why it might be a killer

It is completely different from all the other music sites out there, with so many different easy to use functions that help you discover new music and keep up to date with the opinions of music fans that you trust. This fills a hole that was in music cyber space. Music fans are die hard and their niche is huge. They also make it easy to get the word out on the site through importing your favorite email address book.

    Some questions

Will people pay attention to this site, or just stick to Amazon, iTunes, and their friends´ recommendations? How long will it take for the amount of media available and user numbers get large enough to make the community worthwhile?
