Dig through your closet and brush off your high school French textbook, because Flokoon, a new site that helps you explore content on the internet, operates in French- but is well worth the effort. In reality, the site deals primarily with sounds and images- music, videos, and photos, to be specific- and it allows you to type in the name of an artist, video, or photo you like, and will link that query to other relevant and similar musicians or images. Information is pulled from Lastfm, Youtube, and Fotolia. Flokoon hopes to be a new way of viewing the internet (like Google Maps was for mapping) and a new way to find content online.

The first thing you notice about Flokoon is not the content or results- it is the unique way that the information is presented. It uses a hub-and-spokes type of graph that links a given topic to the relevant results, and you can then click on the new result to find even more images or artists related to that topic. Beyond that, the content is relevant and easier to view than what would normally be found on Lastfm, YouTube, or Fotolia.

Why can the results not be refreshed? In other words, every time I type “Amy Winehouse” into the search box, the same five similar artists appear.
