It’s almost a given: karaoke and reality singing contests plus every Youtube clone out there have the tendency to turn out videos that are horrendously amateurish and poorly executed. These things all too often look and sound worse than jellied meats. However, FanCovers aims to redeem the amateur singing crowd by allowing budding artists share their works, which are more or less serious attempts. The site’s main goal is to have amateur musicians upload their covers of their favorite artists’ songs. Videos are tagged by instruments used rather than standard keywords are they may be embedded into other websites and blogs. Each video also displays the number of views it’s gotten. Amateur musicians of all ages may join for free.

In their own words
“FanCovers.com is a community of amateur music artists performing cover versions of popular songs. Users can upload, share, rate and commenton videos. Create your profile today.”
Why it might be a killer
Provided it gets more users and therefore more content, the site could be a great launching pad for amateur artists to get noticed and to get their names out. Music execs could use the site to scout out new talents.
Some questions
Will the site gain the momentum it needs? How will they advertise themselves? Will it be able to compete with Youtube?
