Everything is licensed under Creative Commons so you can remix, mash-up or sample legally. On its homepage, the website features artists who have used ccMixter to successfully create tracks of interest and popularity. Users also have the opportunity to create and post playlists, learn about editor picks and get news updates from other users on the best ways to remix using ccMixter’s sample packs and a cappellas into original music. You can even sample well-known artists who have included their tracks in ccMixter's library.

    In their own words

"ccMixter is a community music site featuring remixes licensed under Creative Commons where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want."

Why it might be a killer

For those looking to create their own music using already available samples and a capellas, ccMixter is great. It’s easy to use and simple to listen to what’s already available on the site. It’s also a great community of other like-minded individuals who can influence each other with different musical samplings. And ccMixter does a great job of displaying how one can truly mix successfully by featuring those artists who have used the site to their advantage. One thing to note, however, is how the website sometimes timed out when trying to load different tabs, especially when it came to opening the sample and a cappella ones.

    Some questions

Can ccMixter work out its bugs so that pages upload fast and effectively? Can a place be included on the site which would allow users to sell their remixes? Is ccMixter used more by those who download others’ tracks or by those who create them?
