The aptly-titled Bandcamp is a site which will let budding musicians promote their work online. The site intends to make a name for itself in the deluge of similar web-based endeavors by letting users have totally customized sites. This means that the band itself can arrange the site as it sees fit, and include original artwork and designs.

This web-based service is provided free of charge, and bands can choose whether to give away their music for free, or sell it either at a price which is established beforehand, or at a price which is set down by site visitors.

The website also comes complete with the resources for fans to share music among themselves. This is done in a way that means traffic is driven back to the band’s site.

What’s more, statistics are provided so that the band can see exactly where are fans coming from as well as which tracks are arousing the most interest.

The main page also features links to already-existing sites that have been created using Bandcamp, so that those who are interested in this service can check out for themselves the features in question. Screenshots are likewise provided to these ends.

In their own words
“Bandcamp isn’t Yet Another Place to Put Your Music. We power a site that’s yours. So instead of our logo plastered between banner ads for Sexy Singles Chat, your fans see your design, your music, your name, your URL. You retain all ownership rights, and we just hang out in the background handling the tech stuff.”
Why it might be a killer
New bands will appreciate the chance to reach a ready public and make a name for themselves.
Some questions
How many music files can be uploaded online by the same band? Are there any limitations?
