The NY based IndieGoGo is a newly launched community aimed at independent film creators and their fans. Film making, especially, in this age, is a tough business, which is precisely why IndieGoGo supplies filmmakers with all the tools for helping their projects take off—i.e. there are tools for project funding, recruiting and promotion. The GoGo widget can be placed on blogs and social networks; friends can be emailed links to projects, and there’s a directory of fund raising resources. Fans on the other hand, provide support, discover new talents, and get extra perks from the artists themselves. Anyone can upload movie ideas, although the majority have come from writers and producers. Artists can requests funds from the community which are receive via PayPal and disbursed by IndieGoGo. Contributors get VIP perks, however, they do not get any stakes in the film itself. So far, over fifty projects have been submitted.
