World Taxi Meter lets you figure out what you can expect to pay the next time you’re visiting a big city and need to take a taxi. It’s very simple to use, simply choose which city (currently only Barcelona, London, Madrid, New York, Prague, Rome, and San Francisco are supported), which area of the city, which other part of the city you’re planning to go, the time of day you’ll be hailing a cab, and whether or not you’re planning to arrange a pick up over the phone. After you click the “Let’s go!” button you’re brought to a page with a map of your route, a detailed list of your trip and the associated costs (i.e. waiting in traffic), and the total cost of your trip.

“Hmm... I only have 10$, will it be enough to the airport? With World Taximeter you don't have to guess, you'll know it. Also on your mobile. World Taximeter gives you an estimate of the cost of a taxi ride in cities worldwide. Currently we support Barcelona, London, Madrid, New York, Prague, Rome and San Francisco. And hey, notice that little word!! e-s-t-i-m-a-t-e: we only provide an estimate of the taxi fare, although our accuracy is 85% and growing :-)”

World Taxi Meter is easy to use and can help you to know what you should be paying for a ride so you don’t get swindled. Perhaps the site could benefit from linking there site to tourism websites.

How did they choose which cities they would include? It’s hard to believe that Paris is not on the list. Of course, they’ll probably include it and many others if the site becomes popular. Will World Taxi Meter expand its site and offer more than just a price estimate?
