Triptracker.net - Keeping Track of Your Travels

Traveling, despite being the very ne plus ultra of being fashionable and hip, is nothing if you can't talk about your journeys at length, anchoring your tales with memorabilia, snapshots, and odd little bibelot. What better way to do this than on the web, where you can share your stories not just with pals, but with strangers around the world? Hence we have TripTracker, a site developed just for that purpose. Members are given journals and maps and plenty of space for photos. Each journey is described briefly at the page top; more details, journal entries and pictures are available in their respective areas. Pictures are presented as slideshows. You can skip through trips using the timeline at the top or simply browse through the journal entries. The site also has a forum for site and travel discussion. If you have GPS all your uploaded files will automatically be mapped. Accounts are free, but only 200MB of disk space is available for the moment.

  In their own words

"TripTracker is a social travel mapping service designed to help you organize and store memories of your travels and create eye-catching presentations of your trips. TripTracker helps travelers share the tales of where they have been, what they have seen and what they have experienced, either with friends and family, or with the entire traveling world."

Why it might be a killer

TripTracker is like an electronic scrapbook. It's actually simpler than handling glue and you get to display a lot more photos. The popularity of travel guarantees this sort of site a fair sized audience. People are always looking for ways to share and preserve their travel experiences, and TravelTracker provides an easy means to do so.

  Some questions

The over all look of the journals and photos has a slight disconnect—would be great if they could be combined in a more aesthetic manner. TripTracker hasn't really got a novel idea on it's hands, what's to save it from obscurity or acquisition?
