SpotIt.us - Find Hot Spots In America's Largest Cities

Spot.IT is a Microsoft Virtual Earth mash-up which lets members showcase their local expertise. You can find, for example, the best place get the most delicious pizza in Manhattan, or the best spot for Thai Food in Salt Lake City, or the cheapest locale to get ethnic yummies in Wicker Park. For now, the site only covers the fairly over-described metropolitan areas of New York, L.A., San Francisco, Chicago, and Atlanta. Besides departing their precious knowledge of urban hotspots, members can get friendly with other hip trend spotters, and ruminate over cool spots to drink coffee and eat falafel. Search for local digs using keywords and city names, or simply click on the indispensible map. You can also vote for places, and add comments.

  In their own words

"Discover the best qualities of new place. Be a trend Spotter in real time.
Be a local expert. Share your favorite Spots with the world and be rewarded for your knowledge.
Get connected with people who like the same spots as you do. Find the perfect recommendation from people just like you."

Why it might be a killer

This site is perfect for those who are always seeking out cool new hang outs and places to eat. It's pretty easy to use, and has practical information. People are always clamoring for new places to go, and new sites to see, so SpotIt definitely has mainstream value.

  Some questions

These cities are already tried and true—they've been covered—will Spotit, expand its coverage to more exotic locales? Will they add more user reviews, feature lists, and photos?

Thanks for the review. I am part of the SpotIt team and we are very excited to be rolling this product out. We believe that people want to find new places to eat, drink and hangout the same way they do in real life; by word of mouth. By focusing on voting rather than review writing we have lowered the bar of participation and have made the information easier to digest. Users also are able to create their own categories to pinpoint what their favorite quality of a place is (best spot for nachos for example). We are going to be expanding SpotIt beyond our five launch cities. We have about 20 other cities ready to go and have already started collecting data for the rest of the country. We've formed some exciting partnerships that are going to help us collect votes very quickly. Please keep an eye on our site. Everyday we are adding new features and we will be making some announcements in the near feature. Feel free to contact me for more info at joe at needago.com.Thanks again!
