Pollground.com - If you could quiz people anonymously, would you? Check yes or no, and say why.

    pollground

I´ve been having too much fun with this site. It´s like reading other peoples´ diaries and being able to judge them for what they sayâ€"without any face-to-face confrontation. Here´s how Pollground.com works. Users post questions about random topics and then they pop-up on the home page in a poll format so you check one of the answers. The questions then become available in the catalog, which you can browse through by topic. Once you´ve answered a question the site takes you to a graph showing the percentages of users who have chosen each possible answer. A question can accumulate points as it is chosen and answered. So the top users on Pollground are the ones whose questions are rated the highest; they are considered to have been awarded a level of “expertise.” The site does not let users answer a question more than once.

    In their own words

“Pollground is the primary product of UZ Labs, a startup specializing in web services. Pollground aims to allow users to easily and rapidly poll the public for its opinion on any subject, especially on social advice. Pollground and UZ Labs were founded by two college students frustrated by the lack of online resources for quick and honest advice. UZ Labs received seed funding from Paul Graham and his company Ycombinator.”

Why it might be a killer

The site satisfies our thirst for knowledge of the most elusive kind: that of understanding fellow human behaviors. Users are encouraged to take the polling system seriously with the points system, which lends the site a certain amount of legitimacy. Pollground may not become the federal government´s own surveying device, but it could potentially serve companies, organizations, and service organizations who want to better understand their markets.

    Some questions

Right now the content is regulated only by the voting system, which assumes that the users are sophisticated enough to Bury any polls that contain obscene or ridiculous content. Would the site owners consider moderating content or discouraging fluffy, non-serious questions in order to attract more prestigious clients to the site?
