HypeDiss.com - Digg Clone for Discussing Stories, News

The Berlin based HypeDiss is another take on the Digg model. Rather than burying or floating stories to the top users are encouraged to hype or diss them. On the home page is a list of all popular content. Currently, the top stories seem to be Tom Cruise and Scientology, and a tax on drugs. Above that you’ll find a tag cloud featuring categories such as graffiti, apple, architecture and music. Stories are classified as upcoming, just arrived, most hyped, most dissed and most commented. To add your own story, comment or vote, you’ll need to register. Other tools include a flash widget, and a blog integration button.

  In their own words

“hypediss is the place where you can submit your favorite stories, hype or diss the stories to the top, and comment on anything you like. Since hypedisse's content is user-driven, it is up to YOU to contribute. It´s the place to love and hate, make friends or enemies.”

Why it might be a killer

Though we’ve seen this before, HypeDiss keeps things simple. It compiles interesting stories, making it easier for people everywhere to find out about what’s going on in culture, news, tech, sports, etc. The site has a clean and smooth interface.

  Some questions

How is this site going to gain traction—it does have a fair amount of competition. There’s a lot of black on the site which makes it dreary and the stories get overwhelmed.
