Engcom.net - Your Knowledge on Engineering News

    engcom

If you are looking for the latest and greatest information in the engineering field, Engcom.net is a useful user-generated site which allows people to post articles that they find interesting and relevant. In turn, other users may rate these articles, thereby generating a community rank on a scale of “interesting” to “boring” for all submissions. Additionally, one can post or browse in a variety categories dedicated to different sub-field of engineering (for example, chemical, environmental, or civil). The site also maintains a list of the most popular articles, a daily poll, and the latest submissions, and community members also have the option of interacting with one another via email, if they choose to include their personal address along with their post. The content managers also have created a system of evaluating the legitimacy of everyone who post and/or comments on the site (though they do not reveal their methodology).

    In their own words

“Bringing you the most interesting articles, blogs, reviews and questions from across the Engineering web, for you to discuss and critique. You know they're the most interesting because you submitted them”

Why it might be a killer

The slick design combined with easy navigability lends this site a level of user-friendliness which caters to everyone from the engineering hobbyist to Nobel-prize winners. A lighter touch is provided via the “Humor” section. The user-rating system adds an element of trust, so community members can be discriminating and informed.

    Some questions

Posting layout is very basic; doesn’t seem in line with the smoothness of the rest of the interface. Users may register, but will the site expand to include full member profiles and contact information?
