New comer Chuala has dev eloped a user-generated pronunciation dictionary to help you tackle such difficulties as the umlaut and rolled R's. The site, whose name incidentally stems from the Gaelic meaning 'I heard a noise,' requires the Flash media player plug-in. Users can craft their own study guides enlisting exercises and comparison tools on site. Chuala is a very cool learning tool. Sure you could go buy Berlitz or Pimsleur, but Chuala is free, it's extensive, and it gives you the chance to connect with other language learners. Even if you're taking lessons, often there isn't enough class time to focus on important aspects, and giving pronunciation homework is difficult. Chuala however lets students learn on their own time and it gives them the tools they need.

Is there any filter to ensure that actual speakers of a language are giving 'correct' and not made up pronunciations? Do users have to declare what sort of accent they may or may not have?
