    101cookbooks.com - Recipes and More

    101cookbooks

Heidi Swanson's food blog 101 cookbooks looks and reads more like a magazine than your run of the mill weblog. The San Franciscan based cook and recipe collector doubles as a photographer and designer, so you can expect exquisite and detailed shots of at once scrumptious and beautiful food porn. She intersperses her recipes with anecdotal tales, musings and useful hints. Look up recipes by type (e.g. gluten-free, brunch, sandwiches) or by search query. Besides a whole bevy of mouth watering recipes, the site contains reviews and info about new cookbook releases, lists of favorite food sites and links to other food blogs. 101 Cookbooks is available on your mobile and via RSS feed. There are discussion forums and you'll see the occasional guest blogger.

    In their own words

"The premise this site was built on is best summed up in two sentences: When you own over 100 cookbooks, it is time to stop buying, and start cooking. This site chronicles a cookbook collection, one recipe at a time.
101 Cookbooks started in early 2003 when I looked up at my huge cookbook collection one afternoon and realized that instead of exploring the different books in my collection - I was cooking the same recipes over and over. I seemed to buy a new cookbook every time I stepped out the front door - always with good intentions. I would regularly go through my collection of books and magazines and carefully tag each recipe that piqued my interest. I ended up with shelves full of books brimming with Post-it notes and drawers full of recipes clipped from my favorite magazines - neatly organized by course, flavor, region, or ingredient."

Why it might be a killer

101cookbooks has already one a Webby award and it's been featured in numerous publications. The site looks good—as far as design goes, it's minimalistic, yet chic. Recipes are very easy to follow and they are neatly categorized for easy perusal. The mobile access is a nice touch for those at the grocery store wondering what's for supper.

    Some questions

Will the site feature more guest bloggers? Printable recipes (that fit on a recipe card)?
