    YouthRoots.com - A Religious MySpace

    youthroots

At YouthRoots.com youth leaders of the Christian or Jewish faith can reach their students through a medium which appeals strongly to today's youth, online social networks. YouthRoots.com is similar to MySpace or Facebook with a religious twist. People create profiles,
which list their favorite activities, music, where they are from, etc. People can upload photos, choose their privacy settings, and friend other members creating a large social network. There are also groups which members can join and youth leaders can create. Each group is create by an adult and open to the social network. The groups can post
photo albums and calendars to mark future events. You can search for
the groups by activity, for example; habitat for humanity, camping, laser tag, etc. Individuals can listen to religious music, either Christian or Jewish songs, and they can participate in forums and
polls. YouthRoots.com is a space where students and youth leaders alike can be themselves in a faith based environment.

    In their own words

"YouthRoots is a "digital youth room" where students and leaders can meet 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a powerful tool that lets youth leaders extend the reach of their programs through the Web, and build stronger faith connections with their students.

YouthRoots was designed from the ground up to serve the needs of leaders of faith communities, with features that are attractive and familiar to students. It combines the best features of the top social networking sites on the Web and introduces a higher level of safety and control through the concepts of Groups and Group Leaders. By empowering youth groups and their leaders, YouthRoots provides a safer
    environment for social interaction."

Why it might be a killer

The site appeals to the youth by including sections on pop culture, music and other trendy, cool subjects, not only focusing on religion. The site focuses on groups, not just individuals, getting
more people connected through common interests. YouthRoots.com is easy to join and has a large selection of groups to participate in.

    Some questions

Although YouthRoots.com is different from MySpace and Facebook, other social networking sites have such a strong following, will students really prefer to use YouthRoots.com? YouthRoots.com only includes two types of faith, the site would have a larger user base if more faiths were included.
