    YouGetIt.com - Getting Local

    yougetit

Social networks are growing with great celerity, and currently that growth tends to be patterned around localization. These sites want to get to your level. YouGetIt is just the latest in customized sites offering local classifieds, news, videos, events, photos, and weather. YouGetIt starts with your zipcode, or one near it, and aggregates info pertaining to your area. The site also features news items from sports sites, technology forums, and the latest from YouTube. You´ll find restaurant and hotel reviews, businesses, and you can search for other YouGetIt users in your area. It´s an over all hodgepodge of content similar to what you might find in your local city magazine. They are working on a mobile network with alerts, directions, and recommendations via your WAP enabled cellular.

    In their own words

“YouGetIt.com is one of the most ambitious social media sites ever built, combining the functionality and purpose of social networking, video and photo sharing, online auctions and classifieds, online storefronts and more, all in one location.”

Why it might be a killer

The site aggregates local info in one place. It may help you find new people in your area to buddy up with, and it includes content that´s especially useful to you, because it affects you.

    Some questions

This type of site relies heavily on its user base, and right now it´s still not that large. Although the zip cod detector gets pretty close, the listings and content seem to be related to everywhere but the city you´re inâ€"in this case, most items tended to have more to do with Seattle which, although the largest city in Washington, doesn´t do much good for those who happen to live a good day´s trip away, across the state.
