Weplug.com - A New Social Network

Weplug is an ongoing project begun by two French brothers that aims to eventually provide a social network that incorporates geo-location through the use of the iPhone, along with micro-blogging a la Twitter. Currently, the site is well-designed but lacking the above-mentioned qualities making it similar to Facebook but without the user base.

Users can add status updates which stream to other friends via a “friendstream” and in general, the basic features available on Facebook are available here. For the time being, Weplug is worth keeping an eye on and joining due to the promised addition of micro-blogging and geo-location capabilities promised in the near future.

This is a nicely designed social network however it currently is like a Facebook without the users. The addition of geo-location and micro-blogging would definitely make this site a killer.

When will the promised additions of the micro-blogging API and geo location be ready. If they can release these features soon, this site will be one to look out for.
