Vibely.com - The Events Based Social Network

    vibely

Vibely is another take on the streets meets the web, whereby members can take their socializing offline into the streets to clubs, events and coffee shops. The site is based out of D.C., which gets the most coverage, and is currently in alpha mode. Users can create their own profiles, upload pictures, and write down jots, or bits of commentary based on venues and events. Places are rated via a vibe meter, and vibes can be used as a sort of social compass, pointing out the hits from the misses. Jots are location specificâ€"you have to add the joint you´re reviewing to the database, if it´s not there already, and it´s made public, so everyone can find out what kind of vibe your jotted venue has. Vibely rewards members for activity; the more jots you´ve made, the more friends you invite, and events you tag, the more VIP points you´ll earn, landing you VIP status at certain places in the real world, e.g. free dinner at the hottest restaurants, or instant access to the most elite nightspots. Vibely has also got some useful partnerships in the works, allowing you and your friends to get free, no cover charge, access to popular night clubs. Venues are given their own pages, with a prominent vibe meter reflecting the coolness or not so coolness of that particular locale. The site is free to join, and it is itself one of a growing number of event based socializing sites.

    In their own words

“Vibely is a place where you can explore the world around you through the eyes of your friends and others just like you! You can see what others have said about a certain place, view pictures taken there, and even organize an outing with your friends to check it out. Basically, Vibely is what our users make of it; a city-guide with a social-networking twist. We"re just here to make socializing that much easier and exciting for everyone!”

Why it might be a killer

The site has a nice set of features and an easy to follow design. It brings together events and online socializing to make it a little bit easier to find and meet new people both off and online. By targeting large metropolitan areas, the site will gain a critical audience. In comparison to other sites it´s well executed and has useful partnerships.

    Some questions

This sort of social networking via events market it quickly becoming saturated. Vibely will need to beef up its services to remain a major contender. Will it expand to include other venues i.e. less night clubs and restaurants?
