    Valebrity.com - Validating Social Celebrities

    valebrity

I recall one of the first chat sessions with a celebrity I took part of. It must have been the year 1999 and the celebrity in question was Oasis’ bass player Paul McGuigan, or “Guigsy” as he is affectionately known. The thing is, someone pretended to be Guigsy himself and got away with it for a bit before we caught wind of what was going on. This site brought it all to mind since it is a service that validates the identity of celebrities on the social web.

The main page can be compared to an online directory that is split into categories such as “Actors”, “Actresses” and “Sport” alongside “Media” and “Technology” sections to name just a few.

Whenever you click on any profile, you are presented with a paragraph or two that explain how the identity of the person in question has been validated. For example, when it comes to musicians many are validated through their MySpace blogs, and the relevant link is provided for you to check it out.

While this service is not revolutionary or anything like that, as a fan of certain artists and individuals I cherish being able to corroborate that the person I interact with online is the person he claims to be, and not a bum that has nothing better to do. I am sure you will feel the same way.

    In their own words

“Valebrity ensures that celebrities and well-known people on social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Bebo etc are really who they say they are.”

Why it might be a killer

It is always nice to know that those you interact with on the social web are who they claim to be.

    Some questions

Which social sites are not taken into account yet?
