    TrailMonsters.com - The Outdoor Enthusiast's Space

    trailmonsters

Trail Monsters is an online community with the interests of the Outdoor Enthusiast in mind. If you'd like to be a part of a growing community of people who love the outdoors, take a moment to visit, register yourself and take a look around. There's lots to see and do, so take your time, meet some new friends, and make yourself at home. If you'd like to test drive the site, you can log on using the demo account (account details are listed on the main page). Trail Monsters has many of the same features you're familiar with at MySpace plus: For those members who consider themselves "writers", Trail Monsters has the "Writer"s Corner". This area gives selected members the ability to submit stories and other written content for members to read. There's also a "Resources" area which includes the following: a "Classified Ads" area where members can post ads of items for sale or general notices, a "Training and Endurance Log" where you can track your individual progress as you train for your next event, a "Documents" area where members can upload information they've found useful and would like to share with other members, and a "Directory" of Non-Profit Clubs, Organizations and Groups that members can add to or edit. If you'd like to publish your last backpacking trip so others can see it, all you need to do is send an email to Trail Monsters with the information and it will be made available using Google Maps. Other features are added regularly.

    In their own words

"According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of a monster is," one who deviates from normal behavior or character." Trail Monsters is the Online Community for Backpackers, Orienteers, Adventure Racers, and all other Outdoor Enthusiasts who consider themselves "monsters" in their pursuit of outdoor adventure."

Why it might be a killer

There are lots of features other outdoor networking kinds of sites don't offer, including a wealth of resources of blogs, videos, and articles to read. The site is for the most part well designed and has a clean web 2.0 feel to it that is attractive.

    Some questions

Could they tighten up some of the first aspects you see of their site, because once you enter, it's an attractive space, but the logo and first parts of the site that you see give off the appearance that the social network doesn't have a modern appeal. Something as simple as redesigning the header and logo could help attract more people, since they might come to the site and at first glance be turned off.
