SweetOnGeeks.com - Geek Love, Brainy Online Dating

    sweetongeeks

Online dating sites are popular, they stretch your possibilities as far as potential hook-ups or partners go, and they've got keen network type features which everyone loves for the mere fact that they help you found out about people. The problem is however that these sites begin to look like Myspace; so what about those who hate Myspace, what about the so called nerds and geeks who spend hours at the computer but can't manage to use an online dating site? Well, now there's SweetOnGeeks, a dating site 'where grey matters'. Instead of diet ads on site they have adverts for Mensa, their backdrop consists of a random grouping of ones and zeros. This site is cheeky, personal and intelligent. You gotta love the graphics and their Mom and Pop approach to dealing with their users. Besides customizable profiles and messaging, the site's got geek news, Sudoku, games, geek links, and geek videos. The first two weeks are free, afterwards it will cost a mere $5 bucks a month.

    In their own words

"We're not a big, impersonal, corporate site or some pre-canned out of the box dating template. We're actual geeks who have used online dating sites and thought we could do better. We take a Mom & Pop attitude toward customer service and really care about your experience with our site.
We've taken the best features of a social networking site and combined them with the best parts of traditional online dating. Our profiles are customizable from start to finish. Change your questions. Modify their layout. Make the site your own.

This is at the heart of what it is to be a Geek. Our site is designed to provide you with everything you need to showcase your personality. Fly your Geek Flag high!"

Why it might be a killer

This site has a truly different approach to online dating. It's not about showing off your bronzed, bikini clad bod and waxing on the merits of sentimental loves songs and third rate rock bands. This site is for people who aren't into the bombastic brandishing of their personalities; it's smart and clever and well executed. Gotta love their clean and smart graphics.

    Some questions

Does this site depend too much on the geek stereotype? Is it something that self proclaimed geeks would appreciate, or does it rely too much on a sort of smug otherness, that only goes so far?
