    Socializr.com - Evite with Widgets

    socializr

This site is like Evite, but with widgets. Made by the founder of Friendster, it is quite easy to create an invite: you choose a template, make it public or private, send it to all your friends, track responses, and add music or videos (that"s the innovative widget feature). You have to register in order to create an invite, but in viewing the public invite on file, I was less than impressed. The music was not a great additional feature and the invite was extremely slow to download because of the widget, which can frustrate even the most patient web viewer. Socializr has been sued by Ticketmaster, the owner of Evite, for a similar looking winter template, but that seems silly and petty. Evite is wasting their time and money on suing Socializr, as Evite would still be my invite-maker of choice. But, then again, there is a reason Evite sued...Socializr must be taking customers away from them.

    In their own words

Socializr is a free web service for sharing event and party information with your friends. Use Socializr to plan the ultimate social life!

Why it might be a killer

Socializr is more hip and cool than Evite, since it connects with places like MySpace and YouTube, and therefore may be hitting a nerve with the vaulted 18-34 age consumer crowd base. They are also receiving a relatively high traffic volume, although not even close to the volume Evite gets. Still, Evite did sue them, which means they are impinging on their market and threatening their dominance. All in all, being hip and cool can be a huge market force on the internet.

    Some questions

Are they working to improve the speed of downloading invites with widgets? Have they tested whether their motto "don"t be boring" attracts or detracts people from using their site? Are they reaching their profit goals? Are they going to change their layout and design...it was dull and had way too much white. Finally, can a site try too hard to be cool?
